Chapter 5
Part 1
It was the last day of the conference. As Daiki walked limply into the room, he felt sure that every person present must know that he had let Takaki make love to him last night. His reflection as he brushed his hair had shown a different person, a person with stars in his eyes and bloom to his skin and person who had well and truly been made to love to.
He had spent the whole night in Takaki’s bed, only returning tohis room this morning to shower and dress. He had not gone down for breakfast, food was the last thing in his mind. Now he’s araid to look at Takaki because he knew that if he did, his hormones would jump all over the place again.
“You were amazing last night,” Takaki whispered when Daiki reached his side. “I trust you have no regerets?”
“We shouldn’t be talking like this,” Daiki whispered fiercely. “Let’s get on with things.” Even so, he’s unable to really concentrate, too conscious of what had gone between them, and he was relieved when at lunch time the conference finally drew to an end.
Takaki’s closing speech included his thanks for Daiki’s hard work he put during the last three days, “ I don’t know what I would have done without my wonderful PA,” Takaki said “The fact that everything has gone without a problem is all thanks to Daiki. His skills are perfect. I think a round of applause is in order.”
Hot color flushed Daiki’s cheeks as every pair of eyes turned to him. “I only did my job.” He muttered, smiling awkwardly. When Takaki presented him with a bouquet of white lilies, he even felt more self conscious.
“You deserve some recognition,” Takaki said firmly. “None of my other assistants has ever reached your high standards.”
It’s not until they had said their goodbyes to everyone and finally gone up to Takaki’s suite that the latter shocked him further. “I have another surprise for you.”
Takaki’s voice sent shiver of expectation across Daiki’s skin. He glanced at the older guy and saw the way that his lips were trying to contain a grin. Takaki looked like a little boy who was doing his best not to give away a secret.
“A reward for a job well done”
Daiki waited.
“We’re going on a few days holiday.”
Daiki’s mouth fell open, he couldn’t help it. This was the last thing he has expected.
“What do you mean a holiday? I can’t. I have my mother to think of. I couldn’t possibly leave her any longer.” Even though the thought of spending more time with Takaki was exciting, her mother was her top priority. Beside, Takaki never took holidays. What was he talking about?
“She doesn’t like staying with her sister?” Takaki asked, a sudden frown replacing his smile. “Or are you perhaps afraid of what is happening between us?”
Daiki was glad that they had left the others behind. This was not a conversation he wanted anyone else to hear.
“I’m not afraid.” The denial was instant, but he could see that Takaki didn’t believe him. “My mother relies on me. She needs me. It will be too much for Aunt Keiko if she has to look after her any longer.”
Takaki brows lifted. “I think maybe we should let your aunt be the judge of that. Why don’t you call her?”
It sounded as though Takaki was giving Daiki no choice. Although Daiki would have dearly loved to pend more time with Takaki, making magical love, he knew it would be impossible.
“You don’t fully realize my situation. I’m sorry Yuya, but…”
I’m not forcing you to stay,” Takaki said, trying to make his voice gentle and persuasive as possible. “But I do think you deserve some relaxation. You’ve worked very hard and I’d like to show my appreciation.” Daiki enchanted him, and one night of passion was not enough. He wanted to spend more tume with Daiki. Taking his virginity and then coldly dismissing him to resume normal office life was not what he wanted. Daiki deserved better. He wanted the younger guy to know that it isn’t one night stand. He didn’t want Daiki to think ill of him.
Not that he was looking for anything long term. He had no intention of settling with any person ever again. To hell with all that. One go at marriage was enough. But at least he could show Daiki that not all persons were bad.
“Okay, I’ll call my mother,” Daiki said, sounding hesitant. “And see what she says, Maybe a couple of days. I don’t want to bother Aunt Keiko with her for too much longer.”
Takaki would have liked to spend more than two days with Daiki, but he knew that to push the issue would end up with the latter refusing to go with him at all.
“I’m sure you won’t regret it.” Takaki said, his hands touched Daiki’s shoulder lightly and dropping a kiss on the latter’s chubby cheek.
The sweet softness of Daiki’s skin and the intoxicating smell of him was like a trigger to Takaki/ He really wanted to do was to kiss Daiki and pleasure him again, but he didn’t want the latter to think that he was using see as way of persuasion, so he reluctantly backed away, leaving Daiki to go to his room.
Daiki’s mother surprisingly was happy for him to stay longer.
“You deserve a break,” She said. “And your aunt is glad of my company”
“Everything is all right?”
“Of course, I’m safe here, Daiki.”
Daiki knew what she meant. His biggest fear was that the loan shark his father had lumbered them with might catch up with his mother.
Her faher, as well as being bully and lazy, had taken out a loan in his mother’s name, telling him that it made good business sense. His mother had been too frightened of him to argue. His building company had begun to go downhill because he had spent most of his money on gambling and drinking, but it had not been until after his death that they’d discovered the loan had never been repaid and the interest rates made it look as though it never would be paid.
The man after their money was a sharp-faced, cold hearted individual, without any ounce of compassion. Daiki couldn’t leave his mother to deal with the loan shark. Even thinking about the loan shark makes his bother shudder. Daiki couldn’t tell Takaki about it. His mother didn’t want anyone to know. She found the shame of the whole situation too embarrassing, even though it was most of Daiki’s salary that went towards paying off the debt.
Daiki quickly packed and drew in several deep, steadying breaths before taking the few steps back to Takaki’s room. Takaki’s door was open, as though he was waiting for Daiki, and his suitcase was also ready to go. Takaki’s brows rose as he waited for Daiki to speak.
“I’ll come with you.” Daiki said quietly.
“Your mother and aunt are all right with it?”
“Yes.”
“But you’re not?”
“I’ve never been on holiday with someone.” In fact he had never been on holiday. Even saying those words caused his heart to flutter alarmingly. Would he be throwing himself at deep end without being able to swim? Would he regret it? Would he lose his job because of it? Questions after question swam through his mind.
“You are afraid of me?”
Not Takaki. It was his feelings that he was afraid of. He was afraid that at the other end it would all be too much for him, that he would never want it to end. That he would have a taste of heaven before going back to his own private hell.
Although he didn’t close his thoughts, the conflict in his eyes was clear to Takaki to see. With a groan he pulled Daiki against him.
“You have nothing to fear Daiki, not while you’re with me, I want you to be happy, that is all. You’ve looked tired this last couple of days. I guess I’ve put too much pressure on you. Let this be my way of saying thank you.”
Daiki buried his head on Takaki’s shoulder, feeling his stupid tears again. Why did this man always make him wants to cry? The plain fact was that no one had ever been this kind to him before, and he was totally overwhelmed.
“Are you packed?” Takaki asked, gently putting him away from him.
Daiki nodded.
“Then let’s go.”
“Where are you taking me?”
Takaki smiled, the sort of smile that flipped Daiki’s heart and made him want to lift his face for the latter’s kiss.
“I’ll let that be a surprise.’
